When to Ask an Administrator
Some settings are beyond what you or Claude can change. When in doubt, check this page.
Who is an administrator?
An administrator is a person responsible for this platform's settings. Whoever gave you your Claude and GitHub accounts is either an administrator or can put you in touch with one.
You ask an administrator about anything involving accounts, who can use what, secret values, and production data.
What to ask for
| Situation | What to tell the administrator |
|---|---|
| You cannot use Claude Code | That you need an account that can use Claude Code |
| You cannot open the repository on GitHub | Your GitHub username, and that you need an invitation to the repository |
| You cannot sign in to a preview or to production | Whether it is a preview or production, and the email address you used |
| You see "Access denied" | The name of the app you want to open |
| You want colleagues to use an app you built | The name of the app and who should use it |
| You want different roles to have different features | Which role should be allowed to do what. Claude builds the feature. An administrator decides who has which role |
| You want to connect to an outside service | The service and what you want to do with it. An administrator registers the API key |
| You are using file uploads or email notifications for the first time | The name of the app and the feature you want |
| You want to merge a PR that changes the database structure | The PR URL. Have it looked at before you merge |
| A failed check mentions a "migration" | The PR URL and Claude's explanation |
| You want to fix or delete production data | Which app, which data, and what should happen to it |
| You want to stop or delete an app | The name of the app and the reason |
| Colleagues cannot work in production | Since when, in which app, and what is happening. If a PR was merged just before, its URL |
| The App Portal does not show "Logs" | The name of the app whose logs you want to see |
Things you must not do
- Type a secret value, such as a password or an API key, into your conversation with Claude
- Ask Claude to write a secret value into code or a file
- Ask Claude to change the production database directly
- Merge a PR while a check shows a red ×
- Ask Claude to put a change directly into
main
If Claude suggests any of these, stop and talk to an administrator.
