Setup (Windows)
Install the Claude desktop app and Git, then let Claude do the rest of the preparation. You do this once.
Using a Mac? See Setup (Mac).
What you need from an administrator
Before you start, you need two things:
- A Claude account — on a plan that includes Claude Code
- A GitHub account — invited to this platform's repository, the place where the apps' code is kept
Ask an administrator for "an account that can use Claude Code" and "an invitation to the GitHub repository". If you already have a GitHub account, tell the administrator your username.
Step 1: Install the Claude desktop app
- Open claude.com/download and download the app for Windows.
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Start Claude and log in with the account you were given.
Step 2: Install Git
On Windows, Claude Code needs a program called Git before it can work with the files on your computer. This is the one thing you install yourself.
- Open git-scm.com/download/win and download the installer.
- Run the installer. Leave every setting as it is, keep pressing Next, and press Install at the end.
- Quit Claude and start it again.
Step 3: Choose a working folder in the Code tab
- Open the Code tab at the top of the app. This is Claude Code.
- Choose Local. Claude can now work with the files on your computer.
- With Select folder, choose your user folder. It is the folder named after your user name. In the folder picker, type
%USERPROFILE%into the address bar at the top and press Enter to open it.
Documents and Desktop are often synced with OneDrive. A project stored inside them can behave unreliably.
Step 4: Ask Claude to do all the preparation at once
One request covers everything: checking and installing what is needed, logging in to GitHub, and getting the project. Copy the request below, paste it into Claude Code, and send it. It is fine to paste it as it is, even if some words are unfamiliar.
While Claude works, it may ask you to do things like these:
| What you are asked | What to do |
|---|---|
| A confirmation such as "May I run this?" | Read it and allow it if it is part of the preparation. If unsure, ask "What does this do?" |
| A Windows prompt asking "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" | Press Yes if it is for a program Claude has just explained |
| Logging in to GitHub | Your browser opens. Enter the code Claude shows you and press the button that grants access |
| Typing a password | Type it yourself on the screen Claude points you to. Never type a password into your conversation with Claude |
| Restarting Claude | Quit Claude, start it again, go back to the same conversation, and send "Please continue" |
Installing can take a while. When Claude answers that everything is ready and tells you where the folder is, go to the next step.
Step 5: Reopen with the project folder
The folder named algoritmi-sandbox-vibe-coding-platform that Claude told you about is the project folder.
- Start a new conversation in the Code tab.
- With Select folder, choose the
algoritmi-sandbox-vibe-coding-platformfolder.
This folder contains the instructions Claude follows to work by this platform's rules. If you ask while another folder is selected, Claude works without knowing those rules.
Setup is now complete.
If something goes wrong
| What happened | What to do |
|---|---|
| You cannot find or use the Code tab | Ask an administrator whether your plan includes Claude Code |
| You cannot choose Local | Make sure Git is installed, then restart Claude |
| Claude stopped partway | Send "Please continue" |
| You cannot log in to GitHub, or the repository is "not found" | Ask an administrator whether you have been invited. If you received an invitation email, accept it |
| You do not understand what is happening | Send "Explain what you are doing right now, without technical terms" |
